As society seeks to create a sustainable future, global demand for minerals will continue to increase.
Â
At The University of Queensland’s Sustainable Minerals Institute (SMI), we are developing transformative people, approaches and technologies to ensure sustainability for the future.
Â
The Institute’s work is transdisciplinary, independent, impartial and rigorous. Our research integrates the experience of specialists in production, environment and social sciences to achieve responsible development of resources.
SMI is made up of six research centers, a Center of Excellence based in Chile and a technology transfer company. The International Center of Excellence in Chile aims to provide demonstrable benefits to the Chilean population and economy. It is being developed as a global mining knowledge hub in the country that generates human capital, provides innovative research results and carries out effective technology transfer to the industry. The Center is based on the extensive experience that already exists in many areas of Chilean mining research.
Â
This collaboration and investment has the potential to generate significant gains for the industry globally.
