This study consists of a preliminary evaluation of the health risks due to the presence of arsenic in the drinking water in a city near a smelter in Chile. The general objective of the study is to carry out an evaluation of the quality of drinking water, specifically the arsenic parameter, and a preliminary analysis of the risks and possible effects for human health due to exposure to arsenic through the consumption of drinking water in the city and Smelter, where concentrations of this element have been occasionally detected above the maximum limit indicated in NCh409/1.Of2005, using the recommendations and regulatory framework of the Joint FAO/WHO Committee for Food Additives (JECFA 2010). ) and the U.S. EPA.
